Inland ports - the commercial and logistics facilities of the future

The 3rd International Port Convention is the forum for issues concerning the future of inland ports. From 24 to 25 May 2012, decision-makers and management executives of the European inland ports, the transport industry as well as politics and public administration will be gathering at the Karlsruhe Convention Centre (Kongresszentrum). The organisers are Karlsruher Messe- und Kongress-GmbH and Rheinhafen Karlsruhe, one of the largest inland ports in Germany.

The positive development in general economic activity is generating heavy demand for logistics services and opening up extraordinary growth potential for inland ports. If inland waterways are to be able to assert themselves as a reliable, environmentally friendly, low-price mode of transport alongside roads and railways, the inland ports must provide modern services and facilities.

The programme of the 3rd International Port Convention is dedicated to "Infrastructure", "Logistics" and "Commercial property". Modernisation, infrastructure expansion, and projects for new buildings in the grounds inland ports are essential for enabling the operators to work successfully - but this can only be achieved with political support. The 3rd International Port Convention is therefore inviting decision-makers in politics, local authorities, public administration, and the transport industry to take part in open dialogue with the responsible port and commercial executives.
